Pior que existem, surgiu uma "Espectra" da Misericórdia na Final Crisis: Revelations.

DC Direct Discusses Blackest Night Plans
You're going to get the comic books, but
don't you want some action figures as well? DC unveils the latest
collectibles based on its epic summer event.
by Richard George
June 30, 2009
- We're almost there. An event almost five years in the making is just
a matter of days away. DC's heroes are about to be consumed by the Blackest Night
- will any of them survive? IGN will be here to give you the latest
news, exclusives and features regarding the event. And all of the
latest, greatest Blackest Night content will also be on our Blackest Night Mini-Site. The mini-site serves as IGN's headquarters for the big event, so check back often as we update it with our latest articles.
On to today's Blackest Night feature. We've been talking about the
comic books a lot lately, so we thought it'd be great to showcase DC's
action figure efforts. No doubt you saw us reveal the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Hal Jordan figures a while back. But what about the rest of the Lantern Corps and Blackest Night icons? Today we're showcasing the first four
waves of DC Direct's action figures, complete with an e-mail interview
with Direct's VP of Creative, Georg Brewer. Read on for more details
about the line and, of course, a photo of the collectibles.
[Editor's Note: Not all of the figures planned for Blackest Night Waves 1-4 are in our photo. Just to be clear.]
IGN Comics: Let's start with the overall roster for your Blackest
Night action figures. How did you go about determining which characters
you'd be working with?
Georg Brewer: This is a collaboration between the Editor, the DC Direct team and Geoff Johns.
We look to get a series of compelling assortments that cover broad the
spectrum of colors and Corps into each line, but are balanced across
our overall line plan.
IGN Comics: This line-up will be released in different series later
this year. When releasing products in waves, do you know all of the
figures you'll be releasing or do you determine that in blocks of four,
looking for more characters as you go along?
Brewer: Generally we start with an idea for a particular
assortment that drives off the popularity of the character, or
storyline. Sometimes that will dictate how deep we can go with a
certain number of assortments or characters. From there we block out at
least two assortments to start and then evaluate it throughout the
process to course correct as needed. The initial reaction to Blackest
Night has been so positive (and the story so rich) that we are going
back in and adding more as I type this.
IGN Comics: How do you select which figures go in which waves? Is there a method or is it a bit arbitrary?
Brewer: See the answer to your first question for a start. We
develop a master list of all potential candidates or characters to
support a given storyline as a start. From that list we look for an
approach or inner logic for how they can be grouped, or distributed
across the number of waves we have planned. The goal is to try to
balance the assortments, with desirable characters in each so the
interest in the line as a whole is sustained.
IGN Comics: Obviously this entire storyline has been masterminded by Geoff Johns. How much consulting did you do with him?
Brewer: I always love when we work on project with Geoff. Not
only is he a great storyteller, but he is a huge toy collector as well,
so his insight and participation always makes things better. We run as
much by him as is practical, from selecting the figures, to writing the
copy, and he is a great collaborator. Out of our brainstorming sessions
sometimes cool ideas come up that he then can support or play with in
the story as it unfolds.
IGN Comics: Many of your recent action figure series base themselves
on a particular artist - did you work closely with Ivan Reis, Philip
Tan or Ethan Van Sciver when designing the Blackest Night line?
Brewer: We have had the chance to touch base with these guys
from time to time. However, the demands of the comic comes first, so
often we will work from the great imagery they put into each issue as
our control art. They (and editors, Eddie and Adam) have been great in
getting us supplemental info and detail drawings when we need more than
we can find. Overall the result is very successful.
IGN Comics: How far in advance did you plan, design and sculpt these
figures to make it out during the event? Is it a major challenge to
coordinate something like this between the comics division and DC
Direct, particularly given that toys/statues need more lead time and
comics have a much shorter turnaround?
Brewer: Yes and yes! Everyone saw early on that Blackest Night
was going to be huge, and as I mentioned getting everyone on board and
excited to have the toy line up and running during the event was a real
opportunity for us all. Given the time needed for figures this is no
easy feat. When we can actually pull it off it is a great bit of
synergy that adds even more to the overall comic event experience.
However, to do so means we all have to work closely together, and
really push each of our development schedules so product can be ready
when needed, and in some cases (like with the Black Lanterns) we even
hold back or tease some of the visuals so as not to hinder the
excitement of finding them in the story as it unfolds.
IGN Comics: Can you give us the technical specs for these figures - size, articulation, MSRP and any other noteworthy features?
Brewer: Sure!
Wave #1
- Black Lantern Earth-2 Superman 6.5"
- Alpha Lantern Boodika with removable face plate 6.75"
- Blue Lantern Saint Walker with power battery 7.5"
- Atrocitus with power battery 7.25"
Wave #2
- Black Lantern Martian Manhunter 7"
- Green Lantern John Stewart with power battery 6.75"
- Indigo with Power battery 7"
- Kryb with removable back cage that stores 2 alien children 7"
Wave #3
- Black Lantern Aquaman 6.75"
- Green Lantern Arisia with power battery 6.5"
- Star Sapphire with power battery 6.625"
- Larfleeze The Orange Lantern with Glomulus and power battery 7" GLOMULUS is 2.375"
Wave #4
- Black Lantern Firestorm 6.75" to top of head (helmet increases height)
- Green Lantern Kyle Raynor with power battery 6.75"
- Black Hand with Batman skull 6.75"
- Wonder Woman 6.625" to top of head (hair increases height)
Later waves are in the planning stages.
IGN
Comics: We notice Hal Jordan and Sinestro aren't among the figures - is
that simply because you've been releasing Hal and Sinestro in other
lines?
Brewer: Our collectors (thank you all) tend to stay with our
lines for some time, so we felt that the relatively recent releases of
the figures satisfied the need. Their scale and sculptural style where
a perfect fit for the line, and we had another plan for Hal from pretty
early on as a key player for our summer convention exclusive.
IGN Comics: You mentioned more figures planned for the Blackest
Night line. Some of our more favorite creatures in the Blackest Night
series - such as Arkillo, Mogo or Dex-Starr - are a bit out there. Are
characters like that a bit tougher to pull off, particularly if
they're, say, a Green Lantern planet?
Brewer: The wider Corps is filled with cool characters that we
would love to play with sculpturally. As we continue to add to this
line some of the ones you mentioned may find their way in. I've asked
my production team several times where the manufacturing quotes are for
our scale 1:1 Mogo figure, but I think it is bogged down in some silly
discussion about packaging and shipping issues. I'll have to ask
again...
IGN Comics: Are there plans to do more deluxe items like oversized
action figures or statues? Are those a bit tougher to time to
storylines as you have with Blackest Night?
Brewer: We have a number of GL related product coming out in the
next year, which we hope will help extend the Blackest Night fun. Props
are always tricky as they each present unique manufacturing challenges,
while statues can be easier than actions figures because the production
time is a bit shorter. Our multi-colored ring Prop and quarter scale
Hal statue hopefully will extend this program and satisfy collectors of
all stripes. We have a few more things in the hopper so keep watching
dcdirectonline.com!
IGN Comics: Anything else you'd like to add about DC Direct's Blackest Night action figure line-up?
Brewer: Blackest Night has work for us on a number of levels,
and presented the perfect opportunity for DC Direct at the upcoming San
Diego Comic-Con. When we were kicking around ideas for our exclusive
figure, this seemed a natural fit. Seeing Hal in the uniforms of the
various colored Corps is an interesting story point and makes for some
cool figures. From the costume designs to the packaging these figures
will be essential for anyone who wants to complete their Blackest Night
collections.

Todas as waves serão cofre!

Tropa Azul faria sentido.
