DC Comics no cinema: Geoff Johns no filme do Flash e mais

Com a escalação do ator Ryan Reynolds para viver Hal Jordan no filme do Lanterna Verde, outro filme baseado num super-herói da DC Comics acabou perdendo seu melhor candidato a protagonista, já que Reynolds sempre demonstrou enorme interesse em viver o Flash nas telonas.

Mas não há motivos para preocupação. Segundo o prestigiado The Hollywood Reporter, várias adaptações para os cinemas de propriedades da DC estão entrando em desenvolvimento em Hollywood. E o melhor de tudo, contando com grandes nomes dos quadrinhos.

Geoff Johns, que escreveu a revista do Flash por vários anos e atualmente reformula o personagem na minissérie Flash: Rebirth, foi anunciado como co-roteirista e produtor do filme do velocista escarlate. Dan Mazeau, atualmente escrevendo um roteiro para Jonny Quest, desenvolverá o script final de Flash com base no tratamento original criado por Johns.

Marv Wolfman (de Crise nas Infinitas Terras e Novos Titãs) e Grant Morrison (Batman, Crise Final) também terão papel ativo em adaptações por vir, embora nenhum projeto em especial tenha sido especificado.

Já é sabido que os filmes de Lanterna Verde, Jonah Hex e Os Perdedores estão a todo vapor, mas há outros atualmente em diferentes estágios, alguns perto de entrar em produção, outros habitando apenas o mundo das hipóteses, conforme afirma o The Hollywood Reporter: Bizarro, Adam Strange, Aquaman, Shazam!, um segundo Constantine e dois filmes do Arqueiro Verde, um contando sua origem e outro sendo o já famoso projeto Supermax, onde o herói seria colocado injustamente em uma prisão cheia de supervilões. Vale lembrar que, além desses, a DC nos últimos anos deu notícias de filmes com vários outros personagens, como Batman, Mulher-Maravilha, Novos Titãs, Patrulha do Destino, Homens Metálicos, Superman, Esquadrão Suicida, Sargento Rock e Desafiador.

A DC Comics é atualmente uma das maiores editoras de quadrinhos nos EUA, conhecida por ser a casa de famosos super-heróis como Batman, Superman, Mulher-Maravilha, Liga da Justiça, entre outros. Junto com sua linha adulta, Vertigo e a linha Wildstorm, entre outras, oferece diversidade para todas as idades. A DC produz mais de oitenta títulos por mês e cerca de mil por ano. Também é uma das mais antigas empresas do ramo, com setenta anos de publicação contínua.

Blue Beetle Live Action Show in Development?

They've already done some tests on the scarab suit

Geoff Johns, DC Entertainment's recently appointed Chief Creative Officer, seems to be very excited on his Twitter Account this morning about some developments for the DC Comics character, the Blue Beetle, specifically the newest incarnation of the long-running character who first appeared way back in 1939 in "Mystery Men Comics" #1. In recent years, the scarab suit has been worn by teenager Jaime Reyes after Ted Kord, the Silver Age Blue Beetle was murdered by Maxwell Lord.

According to Johns, it is the [Jaime] Reyes character that would be featured in a live action show, having been introduced on the animated "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" last year with plans to play a larger part on the show. The first stage of development in a live action show are recent tests to replicate how Reyes might activate his suit from the magical scarab that attached itself to his spine after [Ted] Kord's death.

As Johns says on his Twitter feed:

"BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes' scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome."

and

"Blue Beetle's going to appear in most of the Brave and the Bold's this year and we're hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed!"

and

"If I can break it out of the vault, I'll bring it to SDCC. LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE!!"



Fans of one of the newest and youngest DC Comics characters certainly should be interested in the company's latest possible foray into live action television, following the success and popularity of "Smallville" and lesser success of "Birds of Prey." Who knows whether Johns will indeed be able to show those suit tests at Comic-Con this year and where that footage might show up if he does, but let us know what you think of a possible live action television show featuring Reyes as the Blue Beetle.

Editorial: Is DC ready to tackle their red speed demon, The Flash?
Can the WB successfully remove the cobwebs, dust off their shelved speedster and bring him back to the screen in our day and age?

Of course they can!!! What kind of simple minded question is that?

In fact, comics aside, their own Flash series from 1990 still rocks to this day, just as much as Burton’s "Batman." Sure the performances aren’t award winning all around, but I still find that John Wesley Shipp brought Barry Allen to life in a much better way than even Christopher Reeve did Superman! In fact, Shipp did the one thing no other hero brought to screen before him ever did… be bad ass! Okay, so as youngsters we didn’t have anything more than Adam West and Chris Reeve in the live action genre. But look at where we are today! I’m not sure we would have even gotten a dark and gritty Batman had it not been for him to begin with. Back in the 80ies, The Flash brought proof that comic book heroes weren’t just for the kiddies.

Today however, we do have a slight problem. And that is the fact that Barry Allen hasn’t been The Flash since he “passed” the torch to Wally West, decades ago. Honestly, personality wise, those two characters couldn’t be further apart. The new generation of comic book readers as well as Saturday morning cartoon watchers, have all grown up with Wally instead of Barry. Although Wally can be a hoot and a holler in the same sense that Impulse is in Young Justice, he’s definitely no Barry Allen. And just to add insult to injury, the fans’ top choice to play Wally West has always been Ryan Reynolds. Now look at him, he’s Hal Jordan: The Green Lantern! And as much as I wanted him as Wally all along, the more I see him as Hal, the more I think he fits him to a tee, and more so than Wally! Hal’s character is cocky enough to bring the comic relief to the Justice League without pulling an “Episode One” on them and over “Jar Jar Jinxing” it like Wally might be more prone to do. Of course I’m exaggerating. After getting two realistic and gritty Bat-films by Nolan, along with news that he’ll be oversee the next complete Superman reboot; logic demands that they would follow the same path with their speedster and guiding light if they ever wanted to bring them altogether in the same epic basket. And in my opinion, there is only one way to do so. Bring back Barry Allen!!!

In regards to the people’s choice of who should portray Barry Allen, it doesn’t matter which site, blog, or forum you visit, the consensus is that Matthew Fox is the ONLY “perfect” choice to pick up where the great John Wesley Shipp left off! If any of you had any doubts from seeing him in "Speed Racer," they surely have all been laid to rest after witnessing his weekly performance in all six seasons of LOST on television. Fox’s character Jack has all the same qualities and faults as Barry Allen. He’s fierce, brash, passionate and heroic and would stop at nothing to do what he felt needed to be done! Make no mistake about it; Matthew Fox is the living embodiment of Barry Allen until someone comes in the spotlight to prove us wrong.

So my question to the WB is: do you guys have the balls to give what we want and make a sh**-load of money doing it? If so then BRING IT! While you’re at it, bring out the Flash video game that was never released--its trailers blew the socks off of all your fans!
